North East	30 to 45	1 to 5	I think it's important that the Police Department be headed by a law enforcement officer.

North East	30 to 45	6 to 10	If the Chief doesn't perform, what can we do about it? At least with Pub Safety Director, the Council (and therefore voting taxpayers) can do something to improve the situation.
North East	30 to 45	6 to 10	A chief can respond on police calls when officers are tied up , a director cannot. A director cannot lead an investigation, look over any information on the state run computer, and use a car with a police radio in it. The reason a director was put in place was to save money. That is no longer the case. Let's go back to a police chief who can perform the task of the director, as well as being a sworn law enforcement officer ,which will better serve the community.

North East	30 to 45	Over 10	I feel stongly that the reinstatement of this position would benefit the town, MOST especially if the position was filled by Mr. Huber. If we are not going to be able to benefit from his vast experience in & knowledge of this town as manager, then at least we can feel secure with him at the helm. We must be on guard, however, for Mr Condorelli's disent in this regard as his son is on the police force. This conflict of interest is alarming enough, so that if Mr Condorelli so much as whispers an opinion it should be considered grounds for his removal from the Council. We will be watching

North East	Over 60	Over 10	Most definitely. I see this issue as one that is going to divide this community. The current "Director of Public Safety graciously gave up his position of Chief of Police to help the town save some money. Now as a thank you he is being "kicked in the pants", so that the Mayor and Council can control him. Picture this if you will. One councilman's son is a member of the Police Department. Suppose this policeman had a difference of opinion with the "Director of Public Safety" and took his complaint to his father, who could then intimidate the Director. Doug Huber has got to be returned to his old position of Chief of Police.
North East	Over 60	Over 10	I believe Doug Huber should be reinstated as Police Chief. He has done a fine j ob for Verona for many years and he should not be abandoned. It seems to me that he took on the resonsibilities of administrator because it wsa a move that seemd to be helpful to Verona at the time.

North West	30 to 45	Over 10	I would very strongly support this issue, the Police Department needs a unifomed Officer to direct them. A public safety director is a civillian with no Police powers. It would be nice to have that extra uniformed Officer in the event of an emergency. Plus the position of Chief is something that would help moral giving officers the chance to rise through the ranks with the goal of possibly filling the Chiefs position on day.

North West	46 to 60	Over 10	It is in the best interest of all the residents of Verona to reinstate the position of Chief of Police. We are very lucky to have someone as capable as Doug Huber for that position. I believe the Town councilmembers opposed to the police chief position have their own agenda and do not have the towns best interest at heart.
North West	46 to 60	Over 10	I think the Police chief should be as free as possible from Political pull. I know however the position is very political in many towns (i.e. W. Orange) as far as appointment goes.

South East	30 to 45	Over 10	Lots of politics here. I think already "the people" know lots of stuff is flying over this topic. Lots of rumors and truths floating. The issues "unspoken" should be weigh in. The local papers are being vague and people are filling in the blanks on heresay. Why have Chief and why not?

South East	46 to 60	6 to 10	No, because in a small town like this, the Council should have the power to oversee the Police, which can be done by not reinstating the position.
South East	46 to 60	Over 10	Once again, your question presupposes that the position must be reinstated, and that it must be done through the introduction of an ordinance. I don't know that for sure, but I am in favor of having a chief of police rather than a politicized public safety director. I have seen the motivation behind the creation of this position in other communities and I don't wish to see that motivation and the results of such motivation at work in Verona.
South West	30 to 45	6 to 10	I do not understand how this current situation evolved and I am suspect of the circumstances. I do not fully understand the pros/cons of Director of Public Safety versus Police Chief.
